H.L. Porter (Plainview)

H.L. Porter, Jr., 87, of Petersburg passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2012 in Idalou. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 12, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Petersburg with Rev. Don Raney, Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Petersburg Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. H.L. was born August 9, 1925 in Ralls, Texas to Hilton L. and Nettie Porter. He grew up in there and graduated from Ralls High School in 1942. He married Joyce Simpson on November 23, 1944 in Crosbyton. He was drafted into the U.S. Army during WWII and served in the Signal Corps. as a Staff Sergeant in AFWPAC command Post in the Philippines. After his service to his country, they settled in Petersburg where he farmed until his retirement in 1993. H.L. was 32nd degree Mason and was a member of the Floydada Masonic Lodge, and also served on the Petersburg Independent School District School Board for many years. H.L. was a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and a Sunday school teacher for Jr. and High School boys. He also served as a Director of Plainview Production Credit Association for 24 years serving as Chairman of the Board for many of those years and was instrumental in many of the credit policies that are in place throughout the state of Texas. H.L. loved farming, fishing, and visiting with his friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Joe Porter and a sister, Mauna Moore. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Porter of Petersburg; two sons, Ray Porter and wife Patrick of Lubbock, Kim Porter and wife Cindy of Petersburg; four grandchildren, Renae Cobb and husband David of Allen, Texas, Misty Appling and husband Rick of Denton, Texas, Doug Porter and wife Julie of Keller, Texas, Skye Moffitt and husband Chris of Irving, Texas; and eight great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Autumn House Assisted Living in Idalou. Their love and care was greatly appreciated.
