Tulia, Texas— Jim Monroe, 75, died Monday, December 17, 2007 in Amarillo. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 20, 2007 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Karel Smith and Rev. Jim Hawthorne officiating. Jim was born November 22, 1932 in Liberal, Kansas. He grew up and attended schools in Liberal, Kansas, Haven, Kansas and he graduated from Hugoton High School in Hugoton, Kansas in 1950. He served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1955. He married Viola Dahl in 1980 in Clayton, New Mexico. She died in 2003. He moved to Tulia in 1981 from Guymon, Oklahoma. He was the Executive Director of the Driskill Halfway House in Tulia for 25 years. Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law; Merle and Rosa Monroe of Fritch, Texas, three sisters-in-law; Pauline Fischer of optima, Oklahoma, Adeline Berkenkemp of Douglasville, Georgia and Alma Walker of San Angelo, Texas, one brother-in-law; Elmo Dahl and his wife Faye of Grover, Texas and several nieces and nephews.
