Grace Sweatt (Tulia)

Grace Sweatt, 92, died at 11:20 a.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2005 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 12, 2005 in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Rob Lindley officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Mrs. Sweatt was born June 3, 1913 in the Houston Community of Swisher County, Texas. She grew up and attended schools there until the sixth grade. She then attended school in Tulia and graduated from Tulia High School. She also graduated from West Texas Teacher College. She married Elbert Sweatt on Aug. 6, 1939 in the Houston Community . She was a teacher for Tulia School District for almost 35 years. She also taught piano and guitar. She volunteered at the Good Sheperd Christian Outreach and worked with the literacy program in Tulia. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Mr. Sweatt preceded her in death on Feb. 22, 1990. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Sorrenson, and two sisters, Effie Parker and Doris Hansen. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Pat & Jerry Evans of Tulia: one son and daughter-in-law, Mike & Jolynn Sweatt of Granbury, Texas; five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren. The family suggest memorials to the First United Methodist Church or Swisher Memorial Hospital.
