Augustin L. Cantu (Plainview)

Deacon Augustin L. Cantu, 73, Heaven is rejoicing as they welcome Deacon Augustin L. Cantu. He left us on January 6, 2008 to join his savior surrounded by family and friends lifting him up in prayer. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Gerard Kenney officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mr. Cantu was born on May 5, 1934 in Pharr, Texas to Pablo and Manuela Cantu. He married Maria Villescas on May 20, 1956 in San Juan, Texas. Deacon Cantu was ordained on September 27, 1998. He faithfully served as a Deacon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainview. Loving, giving, generous and humble are a few words that describe Deacon Cantu. He will be remembered as loving his ministry and influencing many lives. Deacon, Daddy, Grandpa we will miss you but we know that we now have our personal guardian angel. He is survived by his wife Maria; his children: Gilbert and Martha Cantu, Carmen and Johnny Martinez, Rosana and Javier Gutierrez, Gloria Cantu, Teresa and Jorge Quitana, Phyllis and Gilbert Aldaz, Diana and Alfonso Baeza, Christopher and Alejandra Cantu and Jacob Cantu; 13 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; his brothers: Deacon Agapito and Socorro Cantu and Seferino Cantu; his sisters: Concepcion Garza, Teresa Cantu, Isidra Cantu and Dominga Rangel. The Cantu family would like to thank the community for their prayers and support. Special thanks to Ruben, Lety, Senaida and Isaac Lizcano, he loved you as his own. Robert Garza for the joy your music brought him, Nancy Kernell and Area Community Hospice, Accolade Home Health Care, Lowassa Cox, Betsy Galvan, Christina Hernandez, Celeste Contreras and Matthew Molina. Rosary will be recited Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel.
