Mildred Rieff Hammit 82, died Thursday, November 8, 2012, in Plainview. Funeral services will be at 2:30 pm Saturday, at First Baptist Church in Hale Center with Dr. Gene Meacham officiating and Dr. Carrol Green assisting. Interment will be in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Visitation will be held Friday, November 9, 2012 from 6:00p.m.-7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Hammit was born December 12, 1929 in Altus, Oklahoma to Garland Henry and Sylvia Ann Woods Rieff. Mildred is preceded in death by her parents, one brother and four sisters. Mildred graduated from Hale Center High School in 1947. Mildred married A.W. “Bub” Hammit, January 4, 1948 in Cotton Center. He passed away May 30, 2009. Mildred and Bub were in the grocery store business in Hale Center before going into farming in the Hale Center area. Mildred also was employed as secretary of First Baptist Church for seven years where Bub served as a deacon for many years. Her favorite memory was serving as Church Hostess at her church and with her friends. Survivors include a son Larry Hammit and wife Pat of Canyon, Sue Hammit Turner and husband Eddie of Plainview. Four grandchildren: Ryan Hammit of Lubbock, Lorrie Hammit of Canyon, Erin Turner West and husband Damon of Lubbock, and Andi Turner Knowles and husband Justin of Lubbock. She also glowed with pride when she talked about her two great-grandchildren: Cayden and Avery West. She is survived by two sisters, Ruby Teeter Barber of Bryant, Arkansas, Edith R. Sims of Amarillo, one brother, Henry Rieff of Cotton Center. The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church, Hale Center, hospitality ministry, Gideons International P.O. Box 771, Plainview, Texas and Plainview Christian Academy building fund.
