Raymond Harris (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas—Raymond Harris, 74, died Thursday, November 8, 2012 in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Saturday, November 10, 2012 in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Rusty Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 7:00 to 8:00 pm Friday, November 9, 2012 at the funeral home. Raymond was born March 29, 1938 in Wellington to W.R. and Lois Harris. He grew up in Wellington and attended schools there. They moved to Hartley and farmed and he also helped with building the grain elevator in Hartley. He moved to Bakersfield, CA in 1958. He returned to Dumas in 1959 and worked at the American Zinc Plant for about 13 years and he built fences in his spare time. He farmed in Dumas until he moved to Tulia in 1979. He owned and operated R & T Harris Services, Inc. hauling fertilizer and silage to and from area feed lots. He started Rock Hard Trucking about 4 years ago. He attended First Baptist Church in Tulia. He is preceded in death by his parents: W.R. and Lois Harris, one brother: LeRoy Harris and three sisters: Marie Peterson, Evelyn Sasser and Wanda Shields. His family includes one daughter: Becki Robertson and husband Byron of San Angelo, four sons: Kenny Harris and wife Susan of Casa Grande, AZ, Chris Harris of Tulia, Tommy Harris and wife Lisa of Tulia and Kevin Harris and wife Cynthia of Tulia, two sisters: Peggy Griffin of Temple and Cookie Friemel and husband Zig of Dumas, 10 grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3511 10th St., Lubbock, TX 79415.
