O.T. Ryan, 85, of Plainview, passed away Friday, November 16, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, November 19, 2012 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Travis Hart and Dr. Tim Marrow officiating. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Visitation will be held 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. O.T. Ryan was born August 12, 1927 in Livingston, Texas to O.T. and Lillian Ryan. He married Pat McCaskill on August 22, 1950 in Plainview. After serving one year in the navy, he received a bachelor’s and master’s degree in music from Texas Tech in 1949 and 1950, respectively. He has done post graduate work at Columbia University and the University of Texas in Austin. He was a member of Kappa Kappa Psi national band fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia national music fraternity, Phi Beta Mu national band directors’ fraternity, Texas Music Education Association and Texas Band Masters Association. In 1982 he was named Texas Bandmaster of the Year and was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Phi Beta Mu National Bandmaster’s Fraternity in 1993. In 1984 he was among ten band directors nationwide inducted into the prestigious American Band Masters Association. After he retired from Plainview High School he was an adjunct professor of music at Wayland Baptist University. He also served as guest conductor for the Plainview Symphony Orchestra. He followed his close friend, J. W. King as UIL Region 16 executive secretary, retiring from that position in 2005. Mr. Ryan was a member of First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by an older brother, Moffett, an older sister, Sarah, and a younger sister, Beth Ann. He is survived by his loving wife Pat and his four children, Patti and her husband Terry Blake of Cedar Hill, TX, Scott, of North Richland Hills, TX, Mark and his wife Cindy of Garland, TX, and Kirk and his wife Becky of Allen, TX. He had eleven grandchildren. He had two great-grandchildren, Zac Blake of Lubbock TX, and Zoe Blake of Lubbock TX.
