Alice Sharon Thomas, 74, of Lubbock, passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2012. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 3, 2012 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Mr. Kris Thomas, of Lubbock, officiating. Burial will follow in Center Plains Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held Sunday afternoon from 3:00 to 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Sharon was born on July 22, 1938 to Lewis and Alice Thompson in Plainview, Texas. She grew up in Cotton Center, TX. She graduated valedictorian of her senior class from Cotton Center High School in 1956. After high school she attended Texas Tech University. Sharon was very active in 4-H work during her youth; she achieved the highest honor given by 4-H when she was crowned Miss Young America by Seventeen Magazine’s editors during a trip to Washington D.C. She was also featured in an article of Seventeen Magazine which highlighted her accomplishments. Sharon married Bob Thomas in 1958 in Cotton Center. They were happily married for 54 years. She was a homemaker and helped her husband in their family business. Sharon was a member of Cotton Center First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and Girls Auxiliary for many years. She enjoyed cooking, working with the youth in her church, and various arts and crafts. Sharon was a great patriot and loved her country dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis & Alice Thompson; her sister, Davene Thompson Sagesar; and one grandson, Jonathan Thomas. She is survived by her husband, Bob Thomas of Lubbock, TX; her children, Tammy Hacker & husband Gary of Plano, TX, Kip Thomas of Lubbock, TX, and Robin Thomas & wife Lisa of Austin, TX; and her grandchildren, Jordan Booth, Taylor Thomas, Madison Thomas, and Chandler Thomas.
