Mary Oler, 85, of Plainview, formerly of Tulia, passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2012. Graveside service will be held at 10:30A.M. Friday, December 7, 2012 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulia with Rev. David Hawkins officiating. A Memorial service will be held at 1:30 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church in Plainview. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the funeral home. Mary was born November 28, 1927 to Alfred and Etheline Pollard in Amarillo, TX. She graduated Amarillo High School in 1945. She married J.L. “Jack” Oler on May 2, 1948 in Tulia, TX. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in 1963 and her Masters Degree in 1968 from West Texas State College. She taught 5th and 6th grade in Tulia, TX for 20 years. She was named Teacher of the Year twice and served as past president for Tulia Retired Teachers. She was active in Cub Scouts and Meals on Wheels. She took part in the organization of the Tulia Day Nursery. After retiring she took care of her invalid husband for 11 years. He preceded her in death on January 11, 2001. She moved to Plainview in 2003. She served on the board and was a volunteer for C.A.S.A. and the hospital auxiliary. She was an elder and member of First Presbyterian Church. She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Alfred and Etheline Pollard; one brother, Mike Pollard; one sister, Barbara Dunlap. She is survived by one daughter, Karen Sandlin & husband Bruce of Plainview, TX; one son, Dr. Walter Oler & wife Kathy of Lubbock, TX; two brothers, Jim Pollard & wife Peggy of Canadian, TX, and Pat Pollard & wife Vicki of Amarillo, TX; one sister, Ann Reeves of Amarillo, TX; four grandchildren, Celinda Ledger & husband Peter, Scott Sandlin & wife Julie, Anna Oler & husband Alex Meyer, and Rob Oler & Elisa Bierschenk and six great grandchildren.
