Sammy Ramirez, Jr., 62, of Plainview was received into God’s Kingdom peacefully on Friday, December 7, 2012 in Lubbock. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at First Assembly of God with Mr. Miguel Perez officiating. Burial will follow at Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. The family will be receiving friends Tuesday, December 11, 2012 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Sammy Ramirez, Jr. was born June 19, 1950 in Lamesa, TX to Sam Ramirez & Margie R. Ramirez-Perez. Sammy enlisted as a volunteer in the US Army at the age of 17, as a Private. He served in the Republic of Vietnam from September 21, 1969 to December 3, 1969 with the 119th Infantry. Accomplishments include Second Class Gunner Badge with MG Bar (M60), Marksman Badge with Auto Rifle Bar (Rifle M16), Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. With his Honorable Discharge as an E-4/ SP4, Sammy departed the US Army with the prestigious Purple Heart for his overall extraordinary service. After returning to the U.S as a wounded soldier, Sammy began his new life as a husband and a father. He worked as a Supervisor Chief Meter Reader with the Southwestern Public Service for 17 years. Sammy was raised pentecostal and enjoyed activities such as softball, playing pool and classic car racing. Sammy was preceded in death by his son, Bert Ramirez; his father, Sam Ramirez; two brothers, Kenneth Ray Ramirez and Gary W. Ramirez; and granddaughter, Celena Basaldua. He is survived by his loving family, which includes his mother and stepfather, Margie R. Perez and Solano “Benny” Perez; three children, Melissa Ramirez- Mitchell and family of Oklahoma City, OK, Edward Ramirez and family of Lubbock, TX, and Tina LeAnn De Leon and family of Lubbock, TX; nine grandchildren, and four great grandchildren; five siblings, Nancy Alvarado & the late Lino of Shallowater, TX, Brenda Garcia & husband Steve of Lubbock, TX, Mark Cardenas & wife Teresa of Lubbock, TX, Aaron Ramirez of Lubbock, TX, and Carrie Ann Saenz & husband Fernando of Lubbock, TX.
