Tulia, Texas—Vernon Patton, 81, died Wednesday, December 19, 2012, in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, December 21, 2012 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Tulia with Rev. James Sain and Rev. Eddie Helms, officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, Thursday, December 20, 2012 at the funeral home. Vernon was born April 19, 1931 in Noble, Oklahoma to Frank and Maude Patton. He grew up in Noble and Paola and attended Paola Schools. He married Betty Boyington on December 16, 1951. They moved to Tulia in 1952. He worked for Young and Ellis and later owned the Texaco Service Station in Tulia. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church since 1960 where he led music for over 17 years. He also sold National Life and Accident Insurance for a number of years. After he retired he was a self-employed truck driver. He is survived by the mother of his children and best friend: Betty Patton Knowles of Tulia, his children: Debbie Walden and husband Larry of St. Francisville, Louisiana, Russell Patton and wife Carla of Lubbock, Kendall Patton and wife Stephanie of Amarillo and Gay Maynard and husband Mark of Tulia, two sisters: Doris Amos of Waldron, Arkansas and Mildred Barnes of Walnut, California, twelve grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Ovie Patton and Ralph Patton. Memorials may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, 701 N.
