Eugene V. Sooter, 81, of Halfway, passed away at 12:03 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2008 in Olton. Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 9, 2008 in Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Lonnie Poe officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mr. Sooter was born on November 5, 1926 in Lubbock County to Claude and Eunice Crone Sooter. He married Evelyn Parchman, she passed away September 14, 2004. Mr. Sooter attended schools in New Hope at Cooper High School. He served in the U.S. Army and retired fron the Paratroopers and was later was a retired carpenter. He requested that his body be donated to the Texas Tech University Science Department. Survivors include three sons: Vic Sooter and wife Molly, Jason Sooter and wife Emily and Chip Sooter and wife Jill; stepson: Mike Holt and wife Joanne; five brothers: David Sooter, Ray Sooter and wife Inez, Wayne Sooter and wife Francis, Jimmy Sooter and wife Chris and Charles Sooter and wife Jannette; one sister: Pat Herring and husband Dee; brother-in-law: Garland Parchman; sisters-in-law: Jean Martin and Glenda Schumacher; Ten Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
