On December 25, 2012, Joel Thomas Bruington, Sr., 75, of Petersburg, Texas, beloved husband and best friend of Phoebe Joy Bruington for 50 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for, and loved. He was predeceased by his sister Benita Thompson and his parents Alex “Poochie” and Lela Faye Bruington. Joel was born in Petersburg, TX on May 27, 1937 where he lived most of his life. One of his proudest accomplishments was becoming a 32nd Degree Mason. He also served in the U.S. Navy and most recently operated Bruington Trucking Inc., where he served many longtime clients, of which many became close friends. Besides his wife Phoebe, Joel is survived by one daughter, Debra and her husband Adam of Katy, TX; 3 sons, David and his wife Lynne of Birmingham, AL; Joel, Jr. “Joey” and his wife Cindy of Lubbock, TX; and Scotty and his wife Jennifer of Fort Stockton, TX; and 12 grandchildren: Weston, Levi, Erica, Jake, Maddie, Danielle, Ryan, Carlie, Brooke, Tanner, Kyle, and Dillon. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to anyone and everyone who has lent a helping hand. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time we spent with him. Visitation with the family will be held at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview, TX on Thursday, December 27, 2012 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held honoring Joel on December 28, 2012 at 2:00pm at the First Baptist Church, Petersburg, TX with Rev. Jesse Nave officiating. Burial will follow in Petersburg Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Petersburg, Texas.
