Jean McEachern (Plainview)

Jean McEachern, 92, formerly of Plainview, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 in Lubbock. Funeral Services will be held at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel on Monday, February 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., with Mr. Danny Andrews of Wayland Baptist University, officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements are under the auspices of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Jean was born on September 17, 1920 in Eastland, Texas to J.O. and Margaret Martin Houser. Jean graduated from Crosbyton High School in 1938 and Howard Payne University in 1942 with a Business Administration Degree. She married Wilson McEachern on July 19, 1942 in Pasadena, California. They moved to San Diego where she worked in the Defense Industry while her husband was serving overseas in World War II. Mr. McEachern was grievously wounded by German gunfire. Following a lengthy hospitalization, they moved to Lubbock where Jean worked as an accountant for Lubbock Brick and Tile. After Wilson graduated Texas Tech University in August 1949, they moved to Crosby County and began their life-long career as West Texas farmers. In 1963, they moved their family to Plainview, Texas where she was very devoted to and involved in church and community service. She attended First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. Jean and Wilson volunteered for several years taking cancer patients to Lubbock for treatments. Jean was active in the Knife and Fork Club, Women’s Club of Plainview, Reaper’s Bible Class, Meals on Wheels and Toastmasters. Jean and Wilson traveled across the country attending Toastmaster conventions and greatly enjoyed the many trips taken in their motor home with their friends in the local chapter of the Good Sam’s Club. They also traveled abroad visiting such countries as Germany, Austria, Switzerland, England, Sweden, and Norway. Jean is survived by their three children, Karen McEachern Palmer and husband Bruce of Lubbock, Larry W. McEachern and wife Gail of Lubbock, and Susan McEachern Smith and husband Barry of Fort Worth; together with nine grandchildren, Chad Palmer, Brian Palmer, Amber Palmer Rodriguez, Janae Palmer, Audrey Dethloff, Brittany McEachern, Ty Smith, Shelby Smith and Madison Smith and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Wayne Houser and wife Betty of Rochester, MN. Jean was preceded in death by her husband Wilson McEachern and her parents, J.O. and Margaret Houser.
