Thomas Franklin Ormsby, 92, of Kress died on Sunday, February 3, 2013 in Amarillo. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. Kyle Brock officiating. Burial will follow in Kress Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at the funeral home. Thomas was born January 6, 1921 to Robert and Lucia Ormsby in Center Plains, Texas. He grew up in Center Plains and later graduated from Kress High School in 1938. He married Ruby Hall on February 7, 1946 in Plainview. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII and was a fighter pilot during the European Theater. After his service to his country he attended and graduated with honors with a degree in Industrial Science from LeTourneau Technical Institute where he worked with the founder R.G. LeTourneau. Mr. Ormsby has held four patents for Inventions he worked on at LeTourneau. He worked for Baker Plow Company, and the Hamby Company, and also operated his own shop awhile. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, 32nd Degree Mason, and the Disabled American Veterans. Thomas spent the last two years at the Thomas E. Creek Community living center where he was treated with the upmost dignity and respect in which the family greatly appreciated. He is preceded in death by his wife Ruby Ormsby; his parents, Robert & Lucia Ormsby; two brothers, Askew & Billie Joe Ormsby; and one sister, Gertrude Williams. He is survived by two daughters, Tommie Flick & husband Russell of Kress, TX, and Gail O’Neal of Houston, TX; four grandchildren, Rhonda Jessup and husband Jason of Houston, Cammi Smith and husband Brad of Houston, Jason Flick of Amarillo, Jacob Flick and wife Christi of Plainview; and four great grandchildren, Jacquelyn Jessup of Houston, Cameron Smith of Houston, Hunter Lee Flick of Plainview, Abbie Grace Flick of Plainview.
