Tulia, Texas—Jim Doan, 87, died Tuesday, February 26, 2013 in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church in Tulia with Rev. Ernie McGaughey officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 pm Friday, March 1, 2013 at the funeral home. Jim was born October 9, 1925 in the Salem Community of Swisher County to William Arthur and Ruth Doan. He grew up in Vigo Park area and attended Salem Community and Tulia Schools. They moved into Tulia in 1937. He graduated from Tulia High School in 1943. He joined the US Army Infantry in May 1944 and served with the 42nd Rainbow Division. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a POW from January 1945 until May 1945. He was discharged in December 1945 when he returned home. He attended Texas Tech University from 1946 to 1949. He returned to Tulia and farmed and ranched on the Doan Home Place as well as farming in Briscoe, Swisher and Castro Counties. He married Dorothy Sue Beaty on August 29, 1953. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Tulia VFW and he was a Mason for over 60 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Bill, W.A., Allen and Bobby Doan and one sister: Ruth Raymond. His family includes his wife: Dorothy Sue Doan of Tulia, four children: Jan Meador and husband Keith of Dalhart, Kim Davis and husband Rick of Amarillo, Len Doan of Tulia and Suann Doan of Tulia, seven grandchildren: John Meador and wife Ellise of Umbarger, Jared Meador and wife Kendra of Amarillo, Jay Meador and wife Audrey of Canyon, Jaclen Meador of Dalhart, Jordan Meador of Canyon, Whitney Fernandez and husband Gabe of Canyon and Jordan Davis of Lubbock, 12 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
