Tulia, Texas—Evelyn Simpson, 82, died Wednesday, March 7, 2013 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, March 11, 2013 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Ernie McGaughey officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2013 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at the funeral home. Evelyn was born October 31, 1930 in Wright City, Oklahoma to Cooper David and Tina Fleming. She moved to Paducah, Texas at the age of six where she grew up and graduated from Paducah High School in 1947. She married Ray Simpson on August 17, 1952 in Paducah. They lived in Tulia and she graduated from West Texas State University in Canyon with a BS in Elementary Education in 1956. She started with the Tulia ISD in March, 1968 and taught 6th grade English for 34 years when she retired in 2002. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Paducah and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Texas Educators Association. Survivors include her husband: Ray Simpson of Tulia, one son and daughter-in-law: Larry and Elizabeth Simpson of Mt. Morris, New York, one daughter and son-in-law: Patrice and Jerry Sims of Tulia, six grandchildren: Jason Simpson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Cameron Bowers and wife Michelle of Rockport, NY, Raylyn Bowers of Tulia, Madison Simpson of Mt. Morris, NY, Wesley Sims of Happy and Wyatt Sims of Happy. Memorials may be made to the Tulia Cemetery Association, PO Box 116, Tulia, Texas 79088.
