Tulia, Texas—Shelly Winn Borchardt, 57, passed to her heavenly home on Friday, April 5, 2013 at her home in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Monday, April 8, 2013 in the First United Methodist Church. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Shelly was born January 1, 1956 in Tulia to Nelson and Mona Borchardt. Her grandparents were William Otto and Cora Lee Borchardt, Silas and Tressa Mae Nelson. Tressa was a Master Gardener specializing in lilies. Shelly graduated from Tulia High School in 1974 where she was elected and served as President of both the Student Body and Student Council. She also served many positions in Rainbow Girls, Future Teachers and Methodist Youth. Shelly received an excellent secondary education from Texas Tech, Texas A&M and West Texas State University. The fruition of those years was: B.S. in Elementary Education, M.S. in Speech Theater and an Elementary Counseling Certificate. She worked as a teacher and counselor for 30 years, 4 years in Amarillo and 26 years in Tulia. Shelly had such zest for life, always wanting to try new adventures. She traveled many years with friends and family, New Zealand being her favorite place. Shelly enjoyed riding motorcycles with a group from Amarillo. She was a breast cancer survivor for 20 years. Many happy memories were made at the family home on Lake McKenzie, where she enjoyed cookouts with friends and family. She attended the First United Methodist Church, where she was a member most of her life. She is preceded in death by her father: Nelson Borchardt and two sisters: Leah Beth Borchardt and K Linn Borchardt. She is survived by her son: Austin Nelson Dunn of Tulia, her mother: Mona Borchardt of Tulia, two brothers and one sister: Joe Borchardt of Tulia, Billy Sam Borchardt and wife Kenee of Canyon, Christi Beth Fisher and husband James of Murphy, TX, two granddaughters: Shailee Wilhelm and Kyanne Dunn, both of Nazareth, two nephews: Nelson Borchardt of Canyon and Daniel Fisher of Murphy and five nieces: Leanna Borchardt of Amarillo, Autumn Borchardt of Midland, Ranie Borchardt of Lubbock, Taryn Borchardt of Canyon and Audrey Fisher of Murphy.
