Tulia, Texas—Calvin Galyen, 83, died Thursday, March 20, 2008 in Katy, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Monday, March 24, 2008 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Davenport, retired Baptist minister officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Calvin was born to Otis and Nell Galyen on March 18, 1925 in Waco, Texas. He served in the US Navy from 1943 to 1944. He married Pat Hardee on December 27, 1948 in Snyder, Texas. He worked for Loffland Bros. Oil Co. as Area Manager, having lived in Venezuela, Ireland, Chile, Libya and Bolivia. He returned to Tulia in 1964 as owner of Galyen Drilling Inc. He was a Baptist and a member of the Pastor’s Sunday school class at FBC in Tulia. His wife, Pat, died January 23, 2006 in Tulia. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law; Gay and Jack Lavender of Seminole, Texas, one son and daughter-in-law; Mike and Joyce Galyen of Sealy, Texas, twin brothers and two sisters-in-law; Hollis and Jeannete Galyen of Arlington, Texas and Royce and Martha Galyen of Stafford, Virginia, one granddaughter; Becky Galyen of Sealy and three grandsons; Chris Galyen of Sealy, James Lavender of Seminole and Brian Lavender of Seminole. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his sister; Janie Lindskog. Memorials may be made to the Bereavement Fund or the Scholarship Fund at First Baptist Church, 101 N.
