Leta Pruitt, 72, of Edmonson, died on April 12, 2013 in Lubbock. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 15, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church of Halfway with Rev. Dennis Williams officiating and Mr. Willis Blair assisting. Burial will follow in Halfway Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Sunday, April 14, 2013 at the funeral home. Leta Mae was born on November 11, 1940 to Verla Lee & Margaret Simpson. She was raised in Tulia. She played basketball all through high school. She met Eddie Joe Pruitt in the summer of 1958. He says “he found what he wanted and wasn’t any reason to wait around.” They married on Valentine’s Day in 1959. They had three children, Tonya in November of 1959 Joe Dale in April of 1961 and Andrew Lee in November of 1962. Her love of sports was fostered her whole life. Her husband and other friends created an area volleyball team. They travelled all over the south plains playing. In 1975, she began coaching her sons little league baseball teams. She coached for 3 years. Her love of sports was easily seen when any one of her grandchildren were playing she could be seen and heard cheering them on. Whether it be volleyball, basketball, football or baseball she was there. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Halfway. She loved her grandchildren. She was an independent sale representative for Home Interior for twenty five years. She and Eddie were members of the Bells & Beaus Square Dancing group for twenty four years. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Mary Monette Simpson and Etta Sue Mellon; two grandchildren, Christopher and Camille Westbrook. She is survived by her husband, Joe Pruitt of Edmonson; one daughter, Tonya and Steve Westbrook of Lubbock, TX; two sons, Joe Dale Pruitt of Edmonson, TX, and Andrew Lee and Kay Pruitt of Sanger, TX; eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one on the way; four nephews and two nieces. Memorials may be sent to the First Baptist Church in Halfway.
