Margaret Monita Spence Smith (Plainview)

Margaret Monita Spence Smith, 91, of Plainview, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2013. Funeral services will be at 2:00 Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Matador with Grandson, Mike Cox, Brother Roger Foote and Brother Oscar Chavez officiating. Burial will follow in East Mound Cemetery in Matador. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Margaret was born on February 21, 1922 in Paducah, Texas to Archie and Norma Spence. She attended schools in Paducah. She met and married J.R. “Mutt” Smith in 1940. She was a homemaker and they later moved to Matador to raise their family. She is preceded in death by her husband, J.R. “Mutt” Smith; five sons, Ronnie, Mark, Lynn, Robby, and Troy Smith; daughter, Elaine Smith; step-son, Jackie Royce Smith; parents, three sisters and two brothers. She is survived by five daughters, Nita Bloyed and husband Curtis of Greenville, Darnell McGowen and husband Ronnie of Plainview, Linda Plemmons and husband Frank of Saginaw, Joy Scott and husband Doyle of Whitewright, Teresa Brown and husband James of Atoka, OK; two sons, Don Smith and wife Sonya of Childress, Johnny Smith of Plainview; one step-daughter, Peggy Krebbs and husband Lee of Amarillo; one brother, Archie Spence of Hughes Springs; three sisters, Myrtle Porter of South Carolina, Johnnie Lewis of Hughes Springs, Norma Franklin of Houston; 26 Grandchildren, 37 Great Grandchildren, 27 Great Great Grandchildren. Memorial may be made to Area Community Hospice, 4300 Olton Road, Plainview, TX 79072.
