J.C. Thompson, 88, of Petersburg, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, June 7, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Petersburg with Rev. Paul Topher, Retired Nazarene preacher officiating and Mr. Kim Porter assisting. Burial will follow in Petersburg Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. J.C. was born on September 19, 1924 in Iowa Park, Texas to John and Velma Thompson. He grew up and attended schools in Petersburg. He served in U.S. Army during WWII under Patton and was stationed in Germany, France, and Belguim. After serving his country, he returned home and drove a semi-truck for 52 years. He married Ruby Jackson on April 5, 1947 in Plainview. He drove for Skeet Thorpe for 4 years, Phillip 66 for 18 years, and Wylie L.P. for 30 years. He only received two tickets during those 52 years. He was a Sunday School Superintendent of the First Church of the Nazarene where he was a member. J.C. was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Bud, Odell, Coyt, Donald; and three sisters, Velma, Laura, Betty. Survivors include his wife Ruby Jewel Thompson of Petersburg; two sons, Michael Thompson and wife Terri of Kress; Jay Boy Thompson of Petersburg; a daughter, Sheri Ann Thompson of Euless; one sister, Lucille Oden of Olton; two grandchildren, Jonathan Thompson and wife Monica, and Julie Rodriquez and husband JoJo; and one great-grandchild, Emmeri Thompson. The family suggests memorials Petersburg Cemetery Association in c/o Petersburg City Hall or Area Community Hospice Foundation, Plainview, Texas.
