Lucille Witten, 96, of Plainview, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2013 in Lubbock. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church Family Life Chapel with Dr. Travis Hart officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Lucille was born March 8, 1917 to Joseph and Nancy Smith in Covington Texas. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Plainview. She was a true woman of the plains. She graduated from Olton High School and later married T.L. Witten. They farmed at Edmonson for 31 years, moving to Plainview in 1971. It was noted that Mrs. Witten got involved in everything in the community. She also served on the state board of extensions club, on the Child Welfare Board, the Women’s Division of the Chamber of Commerce and Cultural Arts Council. She received the Hale County 4H Silver Spur Award was the National President of Home Demonstration Club, and was selected for Pioneer Woman of the Year in 1987 She is preceded in death by her husband Tommie Lee Witten and one grandchild, Kondi Carson. She is survived by her two daughters, Sue White & husband Keith, and Tommy Burrus Parsons & husband Dave of Lubbock, TX; one brother, J.H. Smith of Amarillo, TX; four grandchildren, Kody Carson, Kauli Sparks, Kamber Smith and Boe Burrus; and nine great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association, 3300 E.
