Wilburn C. England, 88, of Plainview, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2008, in Plainview, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at College Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Don Robertson officiating, assisted by Raymond England. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mr. England was born on November 8, 1919, in Bryan County, Oklahoma. He moved to Hale County in 1923. He married Sarah Edith Baxter on October 12, 1940 in Plainview. Wilburn has been a member of College Heights Baptist Church since 1946 and taught Sunday School for a number of years. He was also a past President of The Brotherhood at College Heights. Mr. England owned England’s Wholesale for 28 years, and his own advertising business for 19 years. He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club for 58 years where he sponsored the Key Club and helped start the Flag Program. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Survivors include one daughter, Marsha Ashton & husband Bob of League City, one son, Nelson England & wife Catherine of Austin; three grandchildren, Mark Ashton, Sarah England and Lezli Gustafson; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Edith on November 14, 2006, his parents, Meredith Elza & Nancy Catherine England, seven brothers, Lucian & Henry Maxwell, Raymond, Garrett, Elza, Hugh and Wayne “Bo” England, and five sisters, Stella Foutch, Virgie Thompson, Curtis Roberson, Bessie Mae Gillian and Ruth England. The family wishes to express a special thanks and appreciation to Mattie Alexander for the care she has shown to Mr. and Mrs. England.
