Barbara Ann Daniel Gunter Foreman (Tulia)

TULIA — Barbara Ann Daniel Gunter Foreman, 84, died Saturday, June 15, 2013, while visiting family in Fort Worth, Texas. A private burial service will precede an 11:00 memorial service, Wednesday, June 19th, at First Baptist Church, 101 N. Crosby, in Tulia. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, June 18th, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Kornerstone Funeral Directors, 201 W. Broadway Ave., Tulia, Texas. Born on February 26, 1929, Barbara Foreman was the daughter of Blanche Gunter and Rankin Daniel. Her mother’s later marriage to Carroll Lee Gunter created one of Barbara’s most beloved relationships. The original Gunter home was twelve miles east of Tulia on Highway 86. She lived happily on the farm with her parents until she graduated Salutatorian of Tulia High School in 1946. Barbara then went sight unseen to Baylor University. While at Baylor, Barbara’s world expanded to include many lifelong friends, beloved professors, and a chance encounter with Lee Scarborough Foreman. Both were traveling by train from West Texas to Baylor after Christmas break when a friend introduced them. The two fell in love soon afterward, graduated Baylor University in 1950, and were married August 22, 1952. Scarborough completed his medical degree in 1953, and, after a year in Tulia, enlisted in the US Air Force as a physician. The couple was stationed in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where they welcomed their first daughter, Carolyn. Upon completion of their military service, the Foreman’s returned to Tulia where they have remained to this day. Dr. Foreman established a family medical practice, while Barbara pursued her passion of homemaking. She contributed to the community by being a faithful lifetime member of First Baptist Church, participating in her daughters’ many activities, and keeping an ordered and beautiful home for a busy community physician. One of Barbara’s special contributions to Tulia was founding the Palo Duro Chapter of the NSDAR, a testament to her love of family, relationships, and genealogy. In later years, her devotion to her husband, her friends, and her sons-in-law brought her exceeding joy. While the tragic deaths of her oldest daughter, Carolyn, and her son-in-law, David, were two of her greatest life challenges, welcoming her seven grandchildren deepened her joy and love of life. Attending as many of her grandchildren’s events as possible was a goal she accomplished even in her last days. Barbara Foreman was preceded in death by her parents, Blanche and C. L. Gunter; daughter, Carolyn Foreman Albano; and son-in-law, Charles David Sharp. Survivors include: her husband of sixty-two years, Dr. L.S. Foreman; daughters, Lee Ann Foreman Anderson and her husband, Creig, Emily Foreman Sharp, Laura Foreman Vinson and her husband, Mark; grandchildren, Brian Alden Anderson, Carolyn Claire Anderson, William Foreman Anderson, Jonathan Charles Sharp, Michael David Sharp, Thomas Scarborough Vinson, and Barbara Ruth Vinson. The family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church, 101 N. Crosby, Tulia, Texas, or a charity of your choice.
