Tulia, Texas—Barnie Latham, 87, died Monday, June 24, 2013 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, June 28, 2013 in the First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Barnie was born September 13, 1925 in Turnersville, Texas to Esteen and J.W. Latham. Barnie played minor league baseball in the Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri League for several years before he started farming. He married Doris Smith on August 12, 1951. They lived in Vigo Park where he farmed for many years before moving to Tulia. In addition, he also ranched in Colorado with Eugene Mote. While in Vigo, Barnie, along with Alvin Fleming, led church revivals all across the country. He was very active in the First Baptist Church of Tulia where he taught Sunday school, but most importantly he spent his life serving and ministering to generations of kids in Tulia. Barnie and Doris would host "Sunday Night Cokes and Jokes” with Tulia's youth at their home after church. Barnie was a 32nd degree Mason and active in Tulia Lodge #733 for over 60 years. He is preceded in death by his parents Esteen and J.W. Latham and his brother and sister-in-law Curtis and Vivian Latham. His family includes his wife of 61 years: Doris Latham, his children: Van and Lynn Latham, Scott and Zane Burrow, Kevin and Robin Nelson, David and Debbie Barnes; his grandchildren: Jordan Latham, Emma Latham, Drew Latham, Scotty Burrow, J.B. Burrow, Blake Burrow, K.B. Burrow, Jonathan Nelson, Nick Nelson, Shelbi Nelson, Jonathan Barnes, Will Barnes, Lauren Barnes and Kaitlyn Barnes; his nephews: Ronnie and Jan Latham, Gene and Kathy Latham and Ted and Carla Latham.
