Edna Earl Cox-Francies, 83, of Tulia died Monday, July 8, 2013. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 11th, at First Baptist Church in Tulia with Reverend Charles Davenport officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 10th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Edna was born on July 10, 1929 in Fairview, Texas to Charlie and Cora Stallings. She graduated from Lubbock High School in 1947 and married Earl Ray Cox of Tulia on October 10, 1949 in Clovis, New Mexico. She married John Francies of Amarillo on June 1, 2002. Edna graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1960 and a Master of Education in 1962. She went on to teach school in Plainview for four years and Tulia High School for twenty-two years as a business teacher, being honored as Texas Teacher of the Year in 1974 and Business and Professional District Woman of the Year in 1975. In addition, Edna served as President of the Texas Vocational Office Education Teachers Association for 1975-76. She retired from teaching in 1987 and was co-owner of Double E Tree Farm in Tulia until Earl’s death in 1998. Edna was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Tulia, volunteering in several capacities. She also volunteered with Odyssey Health Care in Amarillo and was a member of several organizations including; Swisher-Briscoe County Retired School Personnel, Swisher Senior Center, Order of Eastern Star, Texas Tech Alumni Association and RSVP in Tulia. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, four sisters and four brothers in addition to her first husband, Earl and her second husband, John. Survivors include a son, Ricky Cox and wife Debbie of Lubbock; a daughter, Debbie Johnson and husband Danny of Liberty Hill; four grandchildren, Jennifer Frederick and husband Neal of Round Rock, Casandra Carrillo and husband Todd of Denver City, Patrick Johnson and wife Jodi of Fort Worth, Brandon Cox and wife Mandy of Tulsa; seven great-grandchildren; and John’s children, John Michael Francies and wife Cherie, Matt Francies, Vicki Skeen and husband Randy, all of Amarillo. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Tulia or the Swisher County Senior Citizens.
