Kathryn Carlisle, 87, of Plainview, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, in Plainview, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 19, 2008, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Moore officiating, assisted by Dr. Max Browning. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 6-8 P.M. Friday, April 18, 2008. Mrs. Carlisle was born on September 15, 1920, in Plainview, Texas to Louise and John McVicker. She grew up in Plainview and graduated from Plainview High School in 1938. She married Hardy J. Carlisle on May 29, 1938 in Plainview. They were married 57 years until his death on September 17, 1995. They had three children, Sandy, Jay and Mari Jayne. Early in their marriage and during World War II she worked at Crowell Jewelry Store. Hardy and Kathryn opened Carlisle Motor Machine Service and Supply, Inc. on March 1, 1954 and were involved in many activities in the community. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she and Hardy attended the Harmony Class. She was a member of the Gladys Carter Circle and the UMW serving as former president. Kathryn was active in the Gideon’s Women’s Auxiliary. She also served as secretary/treasurer of the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation. She was a member and former president of the Plainview Women’s Club. She was an avid bridge player where she and Hardy played in several couples bridge groups. She played in a Tuesday and Friday bridge group where she and many of her friends played bridge for the past 50 years forming lasting friendships and raising children together. She loved to cook and was well known for her famous sour dough rolls. She was a loving wife and mother and beloved grandmother known as “Momo” to her three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Survivors include two daughters Sandy Ramage & husband Marc of Odessa, Mari Jayne Fowler of Edmond, OK, one son, Hardy J. Carlisle, Jr. of Plainview, one sister, Dorothy Biggers of Terrell, two sisters-in-law, Elaine McVicker of Plainview, Jenne McVicker of Muleshoe, three grandchildren, James Ramage & wife Stephanne of Odessa, Jason Ramage & wife Marie of Dallas, Janet Lankford & husband Scott of Amarillo, seven great grandchildren, and loving care giver and friend Minnie Collins. She was preceded in death by her husband Hardy, her parents John E. & Louise E. McVicker, two brothers: J.E. McVicker & George McVicker, one grandson John Ramage, and one great granddaughter Kaitlyn Ramage.
