Iwana L. Monroe, 88, passed away Friday, May 9, 2008 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, May 12, 2008 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Richard Higley chaplain of VistaCare Hospice officiating. Burial will follow in Silverton Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia. Iwana was born on February 20, 1920 in Lockney, Texas to Charles and Norman Thomas Simpson. She started school in Lockney and graduated from Silverton High School. She married Carver Monroe on January 23, 1938 in Clovis, New Mexico. He preceded her in death on November 21, 1996. They farmed and ranched seven miles southwest of Silverton. Mrs. Monroe was known for her cooking abilities and she decorated cakes for the public for many years. She was a former Girl Scout Leader and a member of the Silverton United Methodist Church. Survivors include three daughters: Carlye Fleming & husband Donald of Silverton, Marsha Miller of Dallas and Mary Strange & husband Louie of Kress; five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a grandson Monroe Hill; a sister Betty Emmitt; twin brothers Tom and Charles Simpson and a son-in-law David Miller. The family suggests memorials to the Silverton United Methodist Church or the Silverton Cemetery.
