At 1:30 p.m. on September 28, 2013, Ruth Ellis Greer formally of Plainview, Texas passed away in Lubbock, Texas with her children and grandchildren by her side. For the duration of her life she was the light of their lives. Services will be held Tuesday, October 1, at the First Baptist Church Family Life Chapel at 1 p.m. with Dr. Tim Marrow officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held on Monday evening from 7-8 pm at the funeral home. Naomi Ruth Greer was born in 1927 at home near Silverton, TX to Icey and Sydney Ellis. She was preceded in death by her late husband Robert Garth (Bob) Greer. She attended school at Liberty and graduated from Plainview High School. She met her husband Bob Greer her senior year at the Plainview skating rink. They married April 17, 1945 and celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. Bob and Ruth raised their 4 children in Plainview. Ruth is survived by Vicki Ballard and husband Jerry of Alto, NM, Cindy Pritchard and husband Randy of Plainview, Brad Greer and wife Jane of Richardson, Tx, and Bart Greer and wife Shawnda of Plainview/Floydada. She and Bob were blessed with 6 grandchildren: Brandon Pritchard and wife Shanna of Plainview, Brook Goldmeyer and husband Charlie of Houston, Beth Wehrman and husband Russel of Richardson, Ben Greer and Naomi of Breckenridge, Co., Tate Greer and Jennifer of Lubbock and Blake Greer of Lubbock. In addition she was blessed with 7 great grandchildren. Her 7 brothers and sisters preceded her in death: Charlie Ellis, JD Ellis, Odis Ellis, Lorene Mallow, Irene Brown, Eva Lee Huntington and Dorothy Franklin. Bob and Ruth were both members of the First Baptist Church in Plainview. Throughout her life, Ruth spent her time teaching 5th grade Sunday School at the First Baptist Church, was an active Brownie Troop leader and a room mother for each of her children numerous times. Plus she excelled in making each birthday and holiday special for the entire family. In addition she spent hours watching her sons play football and basketball. Many afternoons she could be seen watching them practice near the Bulldog stadium. Ruth was also known for decorating talent and ability to make beautiful drapes which today are still in many homes in Plainview. After rearing their children in Plainview, Bob and Ruth moved to Denton, Tx and later retired at Possum Kingdom lake where they spent many happy hours. Ruth was an avid fisherman and participated in the Texas “Bass’N Gals” tournaments. She was also an active member of the Possum Kingdom Women’s club and a member of the Westside chapel. Ruth also spent many loving hours teaching her children and grandchildren how to fish and ski. Her famous words will always be fondly remembered, “lean back, sit on the back of your skis and let the boat pull you up” Ruth loved spending time and was very competitive playing “42” and bridge. She was a true game player. Ruth has lived the last two years at the Assisted Living at Raider Ranch in Lubbock where she met many sweet and dear friends. Special thanks goes to Covenant Speciality Hospital for their wonderful care plus her wonderful nurse and caretakers at Raider Ranch who loved her happy spirit and smile. The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church or Charity of Choice.
