Betty Belk (Plainview)

Betty Varnell Belk, 83, of Plainview, passed away at her home, on Wednesday, October 2, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 5, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Edmonson with Rev. Brian Barkley officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A family visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening. Betty was born April 12, 1930 to W.P and Vollie Varnell in Hollis, Oklahoma. She grew up in Canadian and graduated from Canadian High School. She attended Wayland Baptist University where she met her husband. She married James Belk on November 15, 1951 in Canadian, TX. They settled in the Edmonson area. She worked at J.C. Penny’s and also ran a café in Edmonson. She later became Certified Nursing Home Activities Director and worked at several local nursing homes before becoming a consultant. They moved to Plainview in 2002. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Edmonson for 61 years. She was a part of Home Demonstration Club, RSVP and also volunteered with Meals on Wheels. She is survived by her husband James Belk of Plainview; three children, Mike Belk & wife Debbie of Plainview, Sandra Seago & husband Kim of Plainview, and Gary Belk of San Francisco, CA; four grandchildren, Monica Rodriquez, Brandan Seago, Scottie Slaughter, and Casey Seago; and seven great grandchildren. Memorial may be made to American Cancer Sociey, 3513 10th Street, Lubbock, Texas 79415, First Baptist Church of Edmonson, P.O.
