Phyllis Drake Frick(Tulia)

Tulia, Texas—Phyllis Drake Frick, 94, died Sunday, June 1, 2008 in Lubbock. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Phyllis Drake was born October 15, 1913 in Ft. Stockton, Texas to Harlan Henry and Bertha Hibbard Drake. The family moved to a farm near Kress in Swisher County in 1917 where Phyllis attended public school. Upon graduation from high school she attended Texas Tech graduating from the College of Human Sciences in1938 and receiving her Master’s Degree in 1943. Phyllis taught Home Economics in several public schools in the panhandle. She also worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture from 1943-1953 and was the Home Economist in Research for the South Carolina and the Texas State Experiment Stations from 1953-1963. Upon leaving the experiment stations, she came to Texas Tech as Associate Professor I the College of Human Sciences until retiring in 1971 to travel with her husband. Phyllis married Harvey Frick on October 10, 1970. He preceded her in death in December 1997. She was also preceded in death by “The Drake Boys”, Lawrence, Francis, Wilson and Robert (Bob). Survivors include three nephews, three nieces and their children. The family suggests memorials to the Phyllis Drake Frick and Harvey James Frick Scholarship Endowment at the Texas Tech Foundation, Inc., Box 41081, Lubbock, Texas 79409-1081 or a favorite charity of your choice.
