Tulia, Texas—Ruth Harris Mills, 89, was born March 26, 1924 in Tulia, TX. She was a graduate of Tulia High School. She died on November 13, 2013 in Lubbock. She married Lawrence Donald (Don) Mills on June 5, 1943. After WWII Don and Ruth, returned to Tulia to run the family farm southwest of Tulia. Ruth was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Harris. The family moved to Amarillo in 1958. Don became an air traffic controller at the Amarillo tower and Ruth was a housewife. They had two children: Lawrence (Larry) Donald Mills, Jr. and Jimmy Wade Mills. In later years Ruth worked for the Highland Park School District in the finance office, Della Dunn Realtors and did some home health work before retiring. She lived in Amarillo until November 2012 when she moved to a nursing home in Lubbock. Ruth had a unique quality of mercy and caring. She took time to care for many members of her family when they were in their final years of life. She was a special person in the lives of her nieces and nephews. She loved her extended family very much. She was preceded in death by her parents: A.J. and Maude Harris, three brothers: J.T., C.L. and Ed Harris and one sister: Mary Harris Burgess. She is survived by sons: Larry Mills and wife LaVelle of Amarillo and Jimmy Mills and wife Susan of Lubbock. She had four grandchildren: Timothy Mills and wife Ashley of Portland, Oregon, Rebecca Oakes and husband Bryan of Ludowici, Georgia, Jennifer Mills of Seattle, Washington and Wade Mills of Lubbock. She also had four great grandchildren: Hadassah Joy and Jude Calvin Mills of Oregon, Ethan Jay Oakes of Georgia and Caleb Chavez of Washington. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A family and friends visitation will be Saturday morning, November 16, 2013 from 10:00 to 11:30 am at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulia with Dr. Howard Batson, pastor of First Baptist Church in Amarillo, officiating. The family suggests that instead of flowers donations may be made to your favorite charity, church or ministry.
