Jake Webb, 76, of Petersburg, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 in Lubbock. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, November 24, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Petersburg. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held from 4 to 5 P.M. Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the funeral home. Jonas Clarence Webb, III “Jake” was born on September 15, 1937 in Gorman, Texas to Jonas and Verna Webb. He graduated from Phillips High School in 1956 where he was a member of the Phillips Blackhawks football team that won the State Championship in 1955. He attended UTEP on a football scholarship where he played in the Greenbelt Bowl and Sun Bowl. Jake transferred to West Texas State University and graduated with a degree in Business Management in 1960. He started his career with Southwestern Public Service (SPS) as a sales representative in 1961. He was promoted to District Manager with SPS in 1968. He was then promoted to Division Manager in 1994. In 1998, he became the Community and Economic Development Manager before retiring in 2002. Jake was a football referee for 35+ years and was inducted into the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame in 2006. In 1991, Jake was awarded Curtis Barrett Award for officiating. He was a member of the Lions Club, Hereford Planning and Zoning Commission, member of the Board of Directors of the United Way, and the Hereford Care Center. He also served as Chair for the March of Dimes, Lubbock Chamber of Commerce, Lubbock Meals on Wheels, and was a Mason in the Shriners. Jake married Sandra Hegi in 2003 in Petersburg. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Webb of Petersburg; two daughters, Joni Webb of Dallas, Jana Simmons and husband Kelly of Lubbock; one son, Rex Hegi and wife Becky of Petersburg; one brother, Mike Webb of Borger; five grandchildren, Chance Willis, Keeli Hobratschk and husband Brian, Kassidy Hegi, Karlee Hegi, and Kinzer Simmons.
