Tulia, Texas—Barbara C. Edwards, 85, of Midland and formerly of Tulia died Sunday morning, Nov. 20, 2005 at the Red Rose Christian Homein Midland.. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005 in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Rob Lindley and Rev. Richard Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia. She was born February 7, 1920 in Erick, Oklahoma to C.H. and Maggie Lowe. Her family moved to Tulia in 1922 where she was raised, graduating from Tulia High School in 1937. She attended West Texas Teachers College (now WTA&M) in Canyon receiving a degree in Home Economics in 1941. Following graduation, she taught Home Economics in Petersburg, Texas and San Jon, NM. She and Walter H. Edwards were married on May 15,1942 in her parents home in Canyon, Texas. They lived in California while Walter was stationed there during WWII. When Walter went overseas, she moved back to Tulia where they lived and raised their family after Walter was dicharged from the service. Walter died January 17, 1981. In Tulia, Barbara taught Vocational Homemaking in the Tulia ISD until she retired. She was active in the Texas State Teachers Association and the Homemaking Teachers state organization. Barbara was a member of First United Methodist Church in Tulia for many years and she was an active member of the Friendship Class. In addition, she was a member of the United Methodist Women serving as an officer at the local, district and conference levels. Active in the United Methodist Church wherever she lived, she had joined St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Midland after moving to Midland in Aug. of 2000. She is survived by her sons and their wives: Master Sergeant Roger L. Edwards (serving in the National Guard in Iraq) and Brenda of Plainview, Reverend Richard W. Edwards and Jo Beth of Midland and Bryan L. Edwards and Pam of Tulia; two sisters: Lucille Dean of Aberdeen, Washington and Juanita Glass of Sun City Center, Florida; one brother: Colonel Ted Lowe (Ret.) and wife , Elizabeth of College Station. Barbara’s grandchildren include: Susan Artho and husband, Andrew of Hereford; Chris Edwards and wife, Alison of Washington, DC; Kevin Edwards and wife, Sally of San Antonio; Kimberly Edwards of Midland; Kaury, Lee and Thomas Edwards of Tulia and Kesha Edwards of Amarillo. Her great-grandchildren include; Sadie Edwards of Amarillo and Rachel and Alex Artho of Hereford. She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter H. Edwards, her parents, C.H. and Maggie Lowe; two brothers, James and Herschel Lowe and three sisters, Mildred Avent, Naomi Rogers and Gladys McBeth and one grandson, Michael Edwards. The family expresses heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at the Red Rose Christian Home and the dedicated caring aides and nurses from HospiceMidland for their tremendous care of Barbara during these last months of her life. We also want to acknowledge all the loving friends from Tulia and Midland who have shown their continued support and concern for our mom and our family.
