Tulia, Texas—Lyle Robinson, 93, died Thursday, December 26, 2013 in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, December 30, 2013 in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ernie McGaughey and Rev. James Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Lyle was born July 7, 1920 in Burns, Mississippi to Sylvester Edwin and Hattie Lucille Burns Robinson. He married Catherine Nummy on August 16, 1941. He served in the US Army Air Corps in the China-Burma-India Theater from 1942 to 1946. He attended Oklahoma A&M as a student and also as an instructor of Electrical Engineering. After graduation he worked for J.B. Payne & Associates in Enid, Oklahoma. He moved to Tulia and was the manager of Swisher Electric Co-op from 1959 until he retired in 1990. Catherine preceded him in death on October 7, 1979. He married Wanda Erwin on March 21, 1980. Lyle was associated with USAID traveling to Columbia, Vietnam and India, developing rural electrification. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Tulia since 1959, a member of the Tulia Kiwanis Club and was on the Board of Directors at First State Bank from 1962 until 1994. Lyle is survived by his wife: Wanda Robinson of Tulia, three daughters: Cynthia Hulett and husband Dr. Elwyn Carl Hulett of Portales, NM, Debra Hardee of Amarillo, TX and Donna Boyett and husband John Boyett of Royse City, TX, two step-children: Jona Spears and husband Tom Spears of Grants, NM and Ronnie Rucker of Lubbock, TX, one sister: Sadie Rose Pope of Jackson, Mississippi, one nephew: Howard Lewis Robinson of Orlando, Florida, seven grandchildren, three step grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the hospice of your choice or to the American Cancer Society.
