Tulia, Texas—Leonard Gunkey, 87, died Sunday, January 5, 2014 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 7, 2014 in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Stone, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Oscar Leonard Gunkey, Jr. was born September 9, 1926 in Tulia to Oscar Leonard Gunkey, Sr. and wife Jewel. He was a lifelong resident of Tulia where he attended Tulia Schools. He was a farmer and also received his pilot’s license to fly small aircraft. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister: Geraldine Edwards and one granddaughter: Lisa Dawn Gunkey. His family includes one son: Phillip Gunkey and wife Cathey of Tulia, one daughter: Angela Kim Gilbert of Lubbock, one sister: Doris Howard of Amarillo, four grandchildren: Shaunda Pyle and husband Tim of Amarillo, Amy Gunkey and friend, Brittany Bradfute of Amarillo, Blaine Gilbert of Rio Vista and Elise Watts of Kopperl and two great grandchildren: Ashley Askins of Amarillo and Payton Pyle of Amarillo.
