Mayesie L. Burke, 83, of Plainview, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 in Plainview. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 10, 2014 at Plainview Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A family visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at the funeral home. Mayesie was born on August 3, 1930 in Bangs, TX to Nellie Mae Tesson Mathews and Roy L. Mathews. She married Harvey John Burke on December 21, 1952 in Bangs, TX. He preceded her in death on March 10, 2000. She graduated as Valedictorian at Bangs High School in 1947 and from Howard Payne University in Brownwood, TX in 1951. She taught for awhile at Central School in Plainview, TX. She was a life member of Texas P.T.A. and a member of Chapter BL of P.E.O. She was an active band parent and on the board of Senior Citizens. Mayesie was a long time member of First Baptist Church and more recently a member of Northwest Church of Christ. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Powell and husband Don of Bangs, TX, and Karen Miller and husband Hugh J. of Barwise; 9 grandchildren, Alan Herring of San Diego, Mark Herring of Plainview, Leah Valdez & husband George of Brownwood, Erika Goodman & husband Clint of Bridgeport, Laura Jarrell & husband Christopher of Amarillo, Rachel Wells & husband Jared of Amarillo, Mathew Miller & wife Candace of Lockney, Gabriel Miller & Katie Miller of Barwise; nine great grandchildren, Levi, Cole, Jax and Macy Goodman, Jacob Jarrell and Ty, Taryn, Bethany and Kyle Wells; one brother, Dr. Roy Clyde Mathews & wife Betty of Sherwood, AR. She was also preceded in death by her parents. She dearly loved all of her precious family and her friends.
