Funeral services for Gary Norman Bennett, 66, of Hale Center will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Kornerstone Funeral Chapel with Rev. Robert Malcom, pastor of Western Heritage Fellowship officiating and Chris Sanders, associate pastor assisting. Interment will follow at Hale Center Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Bennett passed away 1:30 AM, January 19, 2014 at North West Texas Heart Hospital in Amarillo. He was born January 4, 1948 in Plainview to Marie Bennett and the late Jack Bennett. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1966. He was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone for 36 years, retiring in 2002. After retirement he worked as a ranger for Palo Duro Canyon State Park. He lived in Plainview and Amarillo before moving to Hale Center. He enjoyed cooking, woodworking, art, and refurbishing homes. He was a member of Western Heritage Fellowship in Hale Center, Telephone Pioneers, and Partners in Palo Duro Canyon. Survivors include wife, Joyce; daughter, Lorri Bennett of Shreveport, LA; son, Brian Bennett and his wife, Andrea of Amarillo; granddaughter, Katie Bennett of Amarillo; mother, Marie Moody of Plainview; sisters, Kaye Robertson and husband Carl of Lubbock, and Suzy Skaggs of San Angelo and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special thank you to all the doctors and nurses who cared for Gary.
