Don Cannon (Plainview)

Don Clinton Cannon, 88, of Hale Center, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2014 in Plainview. Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, January 24, 2014 at Kornerstone Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Cameron, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Hale Center officiating and Mr. Dustin Patterson, chaplain of Interim Hospice assisting. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mr. Cannon was born on May 14, 1925 in Wagner, Oklahoma to Thomas and Myrtle Cannon. His family moved to Cotton Center when he was a young boy. In February of 1945 he joined the U.S. Army. After returning home he married Juanita Kaker on August 21, 1949 in Hale Center. He was a retired farmer and rancher. He also had several race horses that were a great source of pleasure and pride for him for many years. Don was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, James, Romey, Paul, Wallace and Lonnie Cannon; two sisters, Ollie DelGuidace, and Ruth Nichols; one son, Ricky Cannon and one grandson, Christopher Stokes. Survivors include his wife of 64 years; Juanita Cannon of Hale Center, five daughters; Barbara & Don Townsen of Nowata, OK, Sue & Brad Warner of Fort Worth, Vicki & Steve Stokes of Plainview, Sandra & Arden Davis of Lubbock and Linda & Kim Norris of Plainview; one son; David & Carla Cannon of Plainview; three sisters; Dorothy Belcher of Arlington, Ruby & Pete Campbell of Tyler and Bonnie King of College Station, 17 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. The family would like to give a special “thank you” to the wonderful caring staff of Prairie House Living Center, and interim Hospice nurses that cared for him for the past few weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your favorite charities.
