Tulia, Texas--Bertharene (“Bertie”) Wesley Stanaland, 89, died Sunday November 27, 2005 at her home in Corinth, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 3, 2005 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Karl Shackelford, her grandson and pastor of First Baptist Church in Evergreen, Colorado, officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia. Bertie was born September 6, 1916 in Jones County, Texas. She moved with her family to Swisher County, near Happy, Texas, when she was 12 years old. She completed high school at Kaffir and Happy. She married Claude B. Stanaland December 24, 1932. She worked for Swisher Memorial Hospital and Tulia ISD as a Dietician. She was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church in Tulia and the Tulia Home Demonstration Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude B. Stanaland, and her daughter, Roberta Stanaland Taix. She is survived by a daughter, Joann Stanaland Jarvis of Corinth, Texas and a son, C. E. Stanaland of Richmond, Texas, also by six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Stanaland was an avid reader and loved mystery stories. She also enjoyed painting, and always had a jigsaw puzzle or a crossword puzzle going. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, P.O.
