Tulia, Texas— Houston H. Simmons, 87, died Thursday, January 30, 2014 in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, February 1, 2014 in the Kornerstone Funeral Chapel with Rev. Charles Davenport officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation will be held on Friday, January 31, 2014 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Houston was born April 7, 1926 in Cisco to A. H. and Amanda Simmons. He grew up in Cisco and Hamilton. He served in WWII in the US Army from 1944-1946. He received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Upon his discharge he return to Tulia, TX where he farmed then worked for Clifford Duncan Construction and then worked for the City of Tulia for 38 years. He married Sible Simecek on April 28, 1954 in San Antonio. He was a lifetime member of the Tulia VFW and American Legion and a member of the Top of Texas Chevrolet Car Club of Amarillo. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a daughter: Melinda Waldroop. He is survived by one daughter: Renee Simmons of Tulia, three sons: John Simmons of Lubbock, Bentley Simmons of Tulia and Craig Simmons of Tulia, one brother: Roy Ray Simmons of Hutchinson, Kansas, a sister: Wanda Faye Turner of Houston, eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
