Vera Holloway was born October 6, 1914 in Petersburg, Texas to Jeff and Nannie Craig McDaniel whose families were pioneers to the area. She attended school in Petersburg and then married Willie Frank "Bill" Holloway July 12, 1931 in Clovis, NM when she was 16 years old. Following their marriage Bill and Vera farmed in the Estacado community, located south of Petersburg. In 1945 Bill and Vera, along with their three sons Delbert Jo, Billy Bob, and Jesse Lee, moved to the east side of Petersburg where their farm house is still located. The Holloway family was honored with the Master FARM Family Award in 1956. Vera has not only been a faithful member to the Main Street Church of Christ but has also been active in many other parts of the Petersburg community. She was an active member of the Hale County Home Domestication Club as well as the Lubbock Christian College Associates. One organization she dedicated many years to was the Hale County 4-H Club. She served as an adult leader and continued to show support and interest in the stock show by giving the "Top Hand" buckle award. Even while she maintained a constant involvement in her community, Vera took the time to express her talents for painting porcelain china with the Caprock China Club in Lubbock. She also maintained her hobby of tole painting and painting and refinishing furniture. Due to the need to be near her family, Vera made her home in a care center in Bowie, Texas for the remaining time in her life. She enjoyed family birthday and holiday gatherings and was blessed to have pictures made with her great-great-grandchildren showing the five generations of her family. Vera was preceded in death by her husband Bill; two sons, Delbert Holloway and Jesse Holloway; and a brother, Alwin McDaniel. Survivors include one son, Bob Holloway and wife Kay of Bowie; sister-in-law, Mary McDaniel of Petersburg; 13 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to the Lubbock Children’s Home or the Main Street Church of Christ in Petersburg.
