Margaret Kay, 87, of Plainview passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M. Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. Kyle Brock officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5:30 to 6:30 P.M. at the funeral home. Margaret was born on January 25, 1927 in Plainview to Quincy and Irene (Hartley) Gaines. She grew up in Plainview and graduated from Plainview High School in 1945. She then attended Wayland Baptist before graduating from Watson Business College. She worked for the City of Plainview as a secretary for 5 years. She was a homemaker and business partner in the farming operation with her husband. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, visitation chairman, song leader, and church treasurer. She also served as the president of United Methodist Women. She was named Texas Extension Education Association Woman of the year in 2007. She was also a member of the Northwest Extension Club, La Casa Club, had years of service with the PTA, and served 2 terms on the Hale County Health Committee, and volunteered as a 4-H Fashion Show Judge. Margaret was known for her kindness, thoughtfulness, and giving heart. She loved her family and was always there for them. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Henry and Sonny Gaines; and two sisters, Mildred Willard and Elizabeth Dixon. Survivors include her husband Charles Kay of Plainview; two daughters, Karen Royal and husband L.A. of Edmonson, Glenda Kay of Dallas; 4 grandchildren, Jeremy Royal and wife Jenna of Dallas, Aaron Royal and Linda of Lubbock, Quincy Sorrels of Dallas, Avery Sorrels of New York, NY; three great grandchildren, Courtney Royal of Lubbock; Amelia and Harrison Royal of Dallas. The family suggests memorials to the Grace United Methodist Church or Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch in Amarillo.
