Rhea James, 71 passed from this life on February 11, 2014, after valiantly and courageously battling cancer for fourteen months. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 9th & Columbia Street Church of Christ. Interment will follow in Terrace Cemetery in Post, Texas under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Visitation will be held 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at the funeral home. Mrs. James was born April 17, 1942 in Slaton, Texas to Elva and Myrtle Peel. She was raised in the Graham Chapel community west of Post where she attended grade school. She graduated from Post High School in 1960. She was a long time member of the Church of Christ. Rhea married Johnny James on October 3, 1996 and they had made their home in Plainview until moving to Lubbock last summer. She was preceded in death by two sons, Berry Huntley and Kam Huntley; one sister Jeanie Byrd and her parents. She is survived by her husband Johnny of Lubbock. Two sons, Derek Huntley of Tomball, Texas and Terry Huntley and his wife Janet of Lubbock; two step children, Amy Detwiler of Sour Lake, Texas, Jason James of Plainview; one adored grandson, Sam Huntley of Columbia, Missouri; one sister, Beth Hooten and husband David of Lubbock; three nieces D’Lynn Williams and husband Richard of Lubbock, Keliss Byrd of Lubbock, Christa Gillis and husband Joe of Gatesville, Texas; three nephews Shawn Byrd of Lubbock, Clay Hooten of Farmers Branch, Texas, Coby Hooten of Lubbock, one aunt, Mae Hedrick of Lubbock and three special cousins Judy Guy, Anne Gravitt and Kay Bowman. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
