JOHN R. PAGE, 94, of Plainview, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 12, 2014. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, and is survived by his son, and daughter-in-law, Garry and Ann Page; grandchildren, Deanna Page, Jared and Darla Page, Jason and Emily Davis, and Amanda Page; great grandchildren, Machaela, Hannah, Benjamin, Jacob and Rachel. John was born July 5, 1919, in the community of Montalba, Anderson County, Texas (approximately 16 miles outside of Palestine). He grew up farming the land with his family in the piney woods of East Texas. John joined the Civilian Conservation Corp in 1937 and served for 18 months in Safford, Arizona. Soon after leaving the CCC, he met Lois Owens in Estelline, Texas while picking cotton. John was inducted in the United States Army in August 1941 and was stationed in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and in Fort Lewis, Washington before being discharged in 1946. He and Lois were married on October 3, 1942. John and Lois moved to Plainview in 1946. John worked for Ziegler’s Grocery at the corner of 7th and Quincy. In September 1954, they purchased their first grocery store in the community of Seth Ward on E. 24th Street. When they sold their stores to Roger Lowe, in 1982, they owned stores in Lockney, Edmonson, and four stores in Plainview. John has been a member of First Assembly of God since 1946. He served on the Board of Deacons for over 40 years. He served on the Board of Directors for Tri-State Baking Co. for 25 years, Board of Directors of the Plainview Housing Authority for 30 years, Board of Directors of the Plainview Chamber of Commerce, Board of Directors of Texas Retail Grocers Association for 2 years, and the Board of Directors of Evangel University, Springfield, Missouri, for 4 years. John’s kind and generous spirit will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends. A memorial service will be held Monday, February 17, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at First Assembly of God, located at 1300 North Interstate 27, Plainview, Texas 79072. The service will be officiated by Reverend J. Don George and Reverend Nelson Gonzalez. Memorials may be made to First Assembly of God in Plainview, Texas.
