Tulia, Texas--Ralph Wayne Nevins was born on March 7, 1917 and died July 6, 2008 at the age of 91. Services will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Central Church of Christ in Tulia, Texas. Internment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Ralph was born in Rockville, Indiana to Shurley and Anna Nevins. He moved to Tulia, Texas in 1923. He graduated from Tulia High School in 1939 and married Lela Mae Johnson on June 16, 1939. He was drafted into the Army in 1942 and served under General Patton in the European Theater. He was with the 481st Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion in England, France, and Germany. After three years, he returned home and resumed his job at Musick Feed Store where he worked for 16 years and then as a clerk for the U.S. Post Office where he worked for 19 years until his retirement. He was a member of Central Church of Christ, VFW, and Senior Citizens. He enjoyed fishing at Port Aransas and play dominos with his friends and family. He loved God and his family. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lela Mae Nevins; one daughter and her husband, Shirley and Don Sutterfield of Lockney; three sons and their wives, Wayne and Yvonne Nevins of Tulia; Kenneth and Debbie Nevins of Sweetwater, TX; and Dale and Carol Nevins of Canyon; one brother and his wife, Earl and Ardith Nevins of Greencastle, IN; two granddaughters, Melissa Evans and Amy Foerster; six grandsons who will serve as pallbearers, Glenn Sutterfield, David Sutterfield, Jeffrey Sutterfield, Trey Nevins, Kyle Nevins, and Cliff Nevins, and seven great-grandchildren. The family will receive visitors at Kornerstone Funeral Directors on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. The family suggests memorials be to Area Community Hospice, 3109 Olton Rd, Ste. C, Winchester Plaza, Box 5087, Plainview, TX 79072 or your favorite charity.
