Marie Shipman (Plainview)

Marie Shipman, 93, of Plainview went gracefully and peacefully to be with her Lord on February 19, 2014 in San Angelo. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 24, 2014 in Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Mark Leach and Rev. Don Robertson offiaciating. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home. Marie was born January 12, 1921 in Lamar, Oklahoma to Ira and Willie Hallford Skirlock. She married Fred Shipman on November 12, 1938. They were married for 66 years. She was a long time member of College Heights Baptist Church and was an active member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class. She worked 20 years for Plainview ISD as a food service manager. She also was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary in Plainview for many years. Her passions were rock-hunting and oil painting. She was a member of Hi-Plains Gem and Mineral Society for almost 50 years. Marie is survived by two sons: Fred Shipman, Jr. & wife Emilee of Brewster, NY and Bobby Shipman & wife Kitty of Plainview; two daughters: Betty Davis of Oklahoma City and Dyann Shull & husband Melvin of San Angelo; eleven grandchildren, forty-seven great grandchildren, nineteen great great grandchildren and one great great great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, two sisters and three grandchildren. Mom was a gracious and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, beloved by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be greatly missed.
