Tulia, Texas—Cecilia Barrera, “Celia”, 75, of Tulia died Monday, February 24, 2014 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, February 27, 2014 at the Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit in Tulia with Father Marco Gonzalez officiating. A rosary service will be held at 7:00 pm Wednesday, February 26, 2015 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Celia was born in Nixon, Texas on June 24, 1938 to Estonislado and Maria Cruz. She lived in Schooland, Texas in her teenage years until when she was sixteen years old she came to Tulia. She married Alfredo Barrera in May 22, 1969 and has lived here in Tulia all her life. She was a housewife and the greatest cook. She was a loving mother, sister, aunt and grandmother. Her favorite place to shop was at Cato’s. Celia was a member of the Guadalupanas and was also involved with the Lazarus ministries at the Church of the Holy Spirit. She is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Anita Basaldua and Amelia Garcia. She is survived by her husband: Alfredo Barrera of Tulia, Her children: Irma Rocha of Ft. Worth, Danny Barrera of Tulia and Ermalinda Guzman of Tulia, five brothers: David Cruz, Sr., Ernest Cruz Sr., Henry Cruz Sr., and Ted Cruz all of Tulia and Felix Cruz Sr. of Brazoria, TX, two sisters: Angelita Luna and Linda Avilos both of Tulia, nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
