Lorene Frausto,75, of Tulia, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2014 in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Church of the Holy Spirit with Father Marco Gonzales officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A rosary will be held at 6:30 P.M. on Monday, March 17, 2014 at the funeral home. Lorene was born on June 1, 1938 to Domingo and Feliz Gonzales in San Angelo, TX. She married Felix Frausto on November 4, 1955. He preceded her in death in 2000. She grew up in San Angelo later moving to Kress. She went to cosmetology school. She owned and operated Lorene’s Beauty Shop for 30 years. Later she owned Cactus Bakery and Café for 15 years. She was a member of St. Williams Catholic Church in Tulia since 1958 which later was renamed to Church of the Holy Spirit. She served as a guadalupana for over 40 years and also with the Alter Society. She was the RCIA coordinator. In 1964 she went to a Cursillo in Hereford and loved it, which lead to her attending the Escuela De Profesor in Plainview. She became a rollista and began participating at different Cursillos. Lorene also served on the DCCW Deanery and DCCW Diocesan. She was also involved in the community as a chairperson for the Jamaica & Parish Festival, La Victoria Organization, Panhandle Community Services and RSVP. In 1991 she started her first Jamaica and raised $10,000 which helped pay off the church. She taught baptismal and marriage class, she helped immigrants with their applications and to get residence and citizenship. She also helped with voters registration and ballot boxes during the elections. In 2003 Lorene received the Extraordinary Woman Award for the Hereford Deanery. She attended St. Mary’s Cathedral. She is survived by four daughters, Norma Frausto, of Hamlin, TX, Debra Cruz & husband Ishmael of Tulia, TX, Nelda Garza & husband Joe of Tulia, TX, and Janice Rodriguez & husband Joe Rey of Amarillo, TX; two sons, Ronald Frausto & wife Margareta of Spring Branch, TX, and David Frausto & wife Paula of Tulia, TX; one brother, Domingo Gonzalez, Jr. & wife Evelyn of San Juan, TX; eighteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren; and several cousins, nephew and nieces. She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one daughter, Cynthia Elaine Frausto; one son, Daniel Edward Frausto; and one sister, Elva Flores.
